Blog

What is a Blog? For all technical purposes, a Blog is a condensed form of the word(s) Weblog or Web Log. A blog functions as an accessible online personal journal that is generally updated on a daily basis.
Historically, the first blog was actually begun by a student at Swarthmore College, Justin Hall in 1994. Later, in 1997, American Jorn Barger coined the phrase "Weblog." In 2003, the terms Weblog, weblogging and weblogger was included in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Typically, a blog is maintained by adding articles, photos, and other items on a routine basis (for public view). When individuals add or edit blogs they are considered bloggers. Items that are individually posted are deemed blog posts or entries.
Similar to any website or web page, a blog may feature linkable text, images, multimedia such as audio, video or other files as well. While the majority of blogs are centrally focused on specific social interests, other blogs may simply be used as a form of an open diary.
Blogs often contain a title, main content, and post dates. In addition, some bloggers opt to include a comment, and category(s) sections.
What makes blogs different from standard websites and/or web pages is that they are designed for simple creation of new pages and new data that are very user friendly.
Because blogs utilize automated templates, bloggers have easy access to adding and filtering content. Also, blogs are definitely separate from forums and newsgroups, as the blog owner controls them, and the owner alone, has the ability to start new discussion topics.
An influential way of adding to the success of websites, blogs have been and are fast becoming one of the most popular mediums for communicating ideas, topics and general discussions about almost any topic on the Net.
