Colophon

What is a colophon? According to the dictionary, a colophon is "an inscription placed usually at the end of a book, giving facts about its publication." Colophons may be included on websites or web pages to list a synopsis of how a particular website was created. Like an in-depth outline, a colophon is presented on a web page that elaborates on the specific XHTML codes, and other technical information that may have been applied in the creation of a website.

A colophon may also tell users whether or not a website includes certain components, such as frames, compatibility formats for various users, or other compliance issues. A colophon may also provide information regarding which web applications were used, editing applications, and even power systems.

Additionally, a colophon may be useful in serving as beneficial biographical data regarding the website developer; which programming and effort went into the creation of a website; and gives brief credits to developers and colleagues.

A colophon may also include specific copyright statements, disclaimers, an "about" section that covers the organization or company, author(s) and/or other pertinent information.
