Conversion

(OLD DESCRIPTION)Conversion refers to site traffic that follows through on the goal of the site (such as buying a product on-line, filling out a contact form, registering for a newsletter, etc.). Webmasters measure conversion to judge the effectiveness (and ROI) of PPC and other advertising campaigns. Effective conversion tracking requires the use of some scripting/cookies to track visitors actions within a website. Log file analysis is not sufficient for this purpose.

(NEW DESCRIPTION)

What is it meant when someone mentions the word, "Conversion?" Well, that depends on which conversion is being relayed. Typically, in SEO terms, there are several forms of conversion: Conversion Cost, Conversion Point, Conversion Rate, and Campaign Conversions Summary.

Let's begin with the conversion cost. The conversion cost translates into the total cost per sale, which is tabulated by dividing the total cost of an advertising campaign by the actual amount of sales results. How does it work? Hypothetically speaking, let's say you spend ten thousand dollars ($10,000) on an ad campaign. Out of this ad campaign, 100 actual sales were generated. (The conversion cost per sale ends up being one hundred dollars ($100). The conversion cost formula is the amount of money spent, divided by generated sales: $100,000/100) in the end, the dollar amount it will cost you for one sale will be one hundred dollars ($100). This is what is meant by "conversion cost."

Next, let's focus our attention on "conversion point." A conversion point or points are points whereby consumers have concluded a particular process on a website. In other words, conversion points are the completion web pages or "thank you" web pages, interact with customers of your website.

Now onto the term "conversion rate." A conversion rate equals the amount of visitors that bring about the MWR (most wanted response). Conversion rate measures how effective an online ad campaign actually is. Ex., to figure the conversion rate, one must only examine how many visitors per 100 bring forth the most wanted response. So if 60 visitors out of every 100 deliver the MWR, than the conversion rate for that particular site is sixty percent (60%).

A campaign conversion summary is, as the name applies, a summary page that features a review of ad campaign performance for a set amount of time.
