Search Results

Search results, also referred to as a "hit list" or "results list," are a ranked list of items, which show up after a search is entered into a search engine. These results will usually display site URLs, site titles, and brief summary. They may also include a date or file size as well.

Often displayed in sets of 10 on a search engine's pages, it is important to have your website come up in at least the top 30 search results positions to generate possible traffic.

Because search engines work through a variety of algorithms to maintain the most up-to-date database of relevant websites, search results may vary. According to the significance of web documents, search results are dependent upon the relevancy and frequency of keywords on webpages; and in more sophisticated searches (such as Google), programs are proficient at distinguishing valuable content from spamdexing and other irrelevant material. Based on this information, it can be assumed that to attain top search results, that much effort must be put forth into crafting a *search engine friendly website. *(More information in our Glossary of Terms)
