Domain Name
What is a domain name, and why do you need one? Commonly called a web address, a domain name is the identifying name of an Internet website or IP Address. Like any crucial part of any address, a domain name helps to locate organization(s), web pages and/or documents on the Internet. For example, the domain name of this website is "SeoAdept.com." By having a specific domain name, users and web surfers are better able to locate us by having this simple address title.
Beside the usual .com, there are different suffixes attached to domain names. For example, a domain name that is affiliated with a governmental agency may end in .gov; an educational organization may end in .edu. Non-profit agencies often have domain names that end in .net.
It is also important to know that before a domain name can be activated, that it must first be registered to become valid and usable on the Internet. Technically, a domain name usually consists of a sequence of names that are separated by periods. Another example of this would be help@google.com -- the domain name in this instance, would be "google.com."
By having a valid domain name, people can find your website by name as opposed to searching for it by number. If you are interested in registering a particular domain name, it is necessary to check and see whether or not another company or organization has already registered the particular name you are seeking. In this case, you will have to find a different name that has not yet been registered.
