Link Farms

No, link farms are not decorated with goats, chickens and cows; instead, they are websites that have used a careless process of infinite reciprocal linking with other irrelevant sites to improve their search engine optimization. While quantity is somewhat important, quality of sites is assigned greater weight.

Though inbound links are crucial to any SEO practice (as this relates to link popularity), major search engines place much more gravity on sites that contain theme-similar website links. The more significant website links are to the originating site, the higher chances that search engines, such as Google, will find more relevancies to its page ranking results.

Sites that participate in link farms are not held in high regards, and search engines regularly penalize these sites; and in some cases, may even ban sites from search engine ranking altogether.
