Search Engine Friendly Site

How can you best optimize your website to be a search engine friendly site? Bear in mind that major search engines like Google and Yahoo! are constantly enhancing their search methods with new and improved software. In doing so, it sometimes becomes difficult for web developers to maintain a solid strategy on how to best enhance their websites for search engines.

As discussed in our glossary, some key elements into productively transforming your website into a search engine friendly site include the use of simple website structure (such as a flat directory structure); theme-specific keywords and adequate keyword density; rich or linkable content; a strategic link building campaign; and a quality graphical user interface.

A search engine friendly site will be not only easy to navigate by search engine spiders, but should also contain rich content. Because search engines are quickly able to determine theme relevance and quality, it is vital that your website has rich material that pertains to the site subject matter. In addition, good keyword structure is important in attaining a search engine friendly site through careful placement and proper keyword density.

Next, what types of links do you have onsite? Are they significant to your site's theme? Are they relevant to your web pages? If websites participate in link farming, search engines may penalize those sites. (Read more about link farms.)

Some other issues you may wish to examine: How easy is your site to navigate? If users have difficulty reaching web pages, how hard will it be for web crawlers to locate them? (Read about flat directory structure.)

If you have not yet browsed through our glossary of terms, please do so as you will find a wealth of information with regard to optimizing and turning your website into a search engine friendly site.
