Session ID

What is a Session ID? A session ID is the exclusive number, which a website's server gives to visitors (or users) for the specific time frame of that particular user's visit, or session.

Session IDs may be stockpiled in a variety of formats including cookies, form fields or by URL. Each time visitors come to a website, new Session IDs are allocated to the user. But, these identifications may remain the same should the browser stay open; this usually occurs if a visitor leaves a website but then returns to it.

Session IDs are important in that they are unique identifiers which are often embedded in URLs that allow a website to track the status of a customer from page to page.
