What is a Title Tag?

The Title Tag is a small piece of HTML code that is used to define the text that displays in the title bar of the web browser when the web page is displayed.

The title tag is extremely important, because it usually becomes the text link to your page in the search engine listings. You will want to display text that will encourage people to click on this link.

It is also important because the search engines pay special attention to the text in the title tag when indexing your web pages and deciding what they are about. Placing keywords in your title tag that pertain directly to the theme and content of your page can significantly increase the search engine ranking of the page for those keywords.
